listen to muse's madness

Muse debut new song Madness, first official single from album, The 2nd Law

Last week, we got a full-song taste of the upcoming Muse album, The 2nd Law, with the high-octane dubstep track, Unsustainable.

Today, however, comes the first "official" single, Madness, which cools things down considerably. Over a hypnotic, wobbly bassline, guitarist Matthew Bellamy croons. It's a stark contrast to the positively unhinged electronic bonanza of Unsustainable, and a clear indication that The 2nd Law will be a varied affair.

"We are defined by the fact that we can't be defined by anybody," Bellamy told Rolling Stone recently.

The 2nd Law, the follow-up to Muse's 2009 album, The Resistance, will be issued 2 October.

soundgarden preview new song

Soundgarden preview new song from forthcoming album "King Animal"
by SALLY BAILEY

Soundgarden's first studio album release in 16 years will be titled " King Animal" and word on the street is that it will more than likely be released on the 13th of November, don't put it in your diary though as the date is tentative.

Soundgarden released the single " Live to Rise" earlier this year to mixed reviews as a contribution to the soundtrack for the movie "Marvel's The Avengers."

Some regard Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil as the saviour of the band, what with Chris Cornell's  very un-rock & roll solo experiments like the hip-hop influenced collaboration with Timbaland, "Scream."

Having said that Thayil reveals in an upcoming interview with Rolling Stone that the new album " re-establishes that we still rock, we're still heavy, and we're still a little weird."  Hopefully that will give fans disappointed with the first offering something to get excited about.

Speaking of which, here is a preview of " Worst Dreams" from the album "King Animal."

megadeath to start new album
Megadeath to commence work on new album
by SALLY BAILEY

Having nearly completed their tour in support of the release of 2011's "Thirteen", Megadeth will return to the studio to work on their next release.

Dave Mustaine tweeted the following this week, " [Producer] Johnny K. is arriving tomorrow to start pre-production on our new record........This should be a very interesting record."

Johnny K has worked with Megadeth before, obviously the band are happy with the work he did on on "Thirteen," which debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 album chart and shifted 42,000 units the first week it was unleashed .

john forgerty postpone new album to next year
John Fogerty Postpones New Album to Early 2013

John Fogerty's new album of collaborations on some of his most famous songs with artists ranging from Jennifer Hudson to the Foo Fighters appears to be postponed from its original October 9 release to "early 2013."

The original track list of ten collaborations (see our original preview) is evidently being enhanced with some originals and, as Fogerty's website says, "notable surprises."

The text of the announcement on Fogerty's page:

Wrote A Song For Everyone Coming in Early 2013

There is an amazing group of artists who have joined Fogerty in making this record - bringing their distinctive style to his songs. There are additional touches being added to the recording, including some new original songs and notable surprises. Check back here for further updates!
There is no mention of the postponement but the original announcement had the October date. The album was also up for pre-order on Amazon.com but has, as of this writing, been removed.

zz top release new song from new album

ZZ Top to release first album in nine years

ZZ Top are set to release 'La Futura', their first new album in nine years, on September 10.

The legendary guitar band's new album is their fifteenth studio LP, and has been produced by Rick Rubin and Billy Gibbons of the band. It is made up of 10 tracks and was recorded at Foam Box Recordings in Houston and at Shangri La Studios in Malibu.

Of the follow-up to 2003's 'Mescalero', Gibbons says: "We thought long and hard about what this album should be. We wanted to recall the directness of our early stuff but not turn our backs on contemporary technology. The result of this melding of the past and the present is, of course, 'La Futura'."

Earlier this summer, Gibbons revealed that he and bandmate Dusty Hill once turned down an offer of $1 million (£638,000) to shave off their beards. The singer told Brave Worlds that he and Hill were approached by Gillette, who offered them the staggering amount of money to shave.

Asked why he turned it down, Gibbons said: "No dice. Even adjusted for inflation, this isn't going to fly. They prospect of seeing oneself in the mirror clean-shaven is too close to a Vincent Price film... a prospect not to be contemplated, no matter the compensation."

ZZ Top are currently on tour in North America.

The 'La Futura' tracklisting is:

'I Gotsta Get Paid'
'Chartreuse'
'Consumption'
'Over You'
'Heartache In Blue'
'I Don't Wanna Lose, Lose, You'
'Flyin' High'
'It's Too Easy Mañana'
'Big Shiny Nine'
'Have A Little Mercy'

duran duran cancel pittsburgh show

Duran Duran Cancel Pittsburgh Show

by PAUL CASHMERE

Duran Duran have cancelled a second US show, this time in Pittsburgh.

In a statement at the band’s website, it says:

“British rock band, Duran Duran, have been forced to cancel tonight’s show at Stage AE, in Pittsburgh (Sunday August 26th), because keyboardist Nick Rhodes, who has been unwell for the past few days, has been advised by doctors that he should not perform, for the second night in a row. Rhodes, who along with the rest of the band, has been on the road for almost two years in support of their latest “All You Need Is Now” album, has been experiencing an array of symptoms that doctors now believe could be the result of a viral infection.

“Speaking from his hotel today, Nick said “I was hoping that after missing last night’s show, I would be feeling up to traveling and performing today, but having seen the doctor again first thing this morning, I have been told that I need to continue to rest, pending further tests tomorrow. I feel completely helpless over the situation and all I can do is apologize to our fans – who I hope know that we would never let them down unless it was totally unavoidable. This is the final leg of our world tour – and I can’t tell you how disappointed I am with this outcome.”

“The band are looking at whether it will be possible to reschedule the show within the next few days, so ticket-holders should hold on to their tickets until further details are announced”.

This is the second Duran Duran show cancelled on the weekend. Saturday’s Atlantic City show was also cancelled. The band hopes to make good on both shows sometime this week.
