timex social club to tour
Timex Social Club Back Together and Ready to Tour

The Timex Social Club scaled the American R&B charts in the mid-80's with three top fifteen records including their number 1 smash Rumors (1986/#1 R&B/#8 Pop) which became one of the best selling 12-inch singles of all time. The group broke up in 1986 but two of its members, Marcus Thompson and Samuelle, are ready to go back on the road.

Formed in Berkeley, California in 1982, TSC climbed the Billboard R&B charts for the first time in the summer 1986 with Rumors. This led to an invitation from rap impresario Russell Simmons for the group to join the historic Raising Hell Tour as an opening act, for rap heavy weighs RUN-D.M.C., Whodini, LL Cool J, Doug E. Fresh and The Beastie Boys.

Their album, Vicious Rumors, released in late 1986, included Thinkin' About Ya and Mixed-Up World, both of which reached the Billboard R&B top 15.

Over the years, Timex Social Club's music has been sampled and covered by such artists as: 2 Pac (Soon As I Get Home), Public Enemy (More News At Eleven), Master P (Thinkin’ ‘Bout You), Club Nouveau (Jealousy, Why You Treat Me So Bad) and The Luniz (I Got 5 On It) just to name a few.

In 2011, founding member, songwriter and author, Thompson released a book entitled How Do Rumors Get Started: The True Story of Timex Social Club. To date, the book has received great reviews on sites such as Lulu.com and Amazon.com.

Now, in 2012, Thompson and Samuelle (the voice of Club Nouveau - Jealousy and Lean On Me) are united and are performing their hits. To keep up with their latest schedule, visit timexsocialclub.com

George Michael coming to Australia in 2012
by SALLY BAILEY

George Michael will return to Australia in November 2012, when his Symphonica: The Orchestral Tour travels to arenas in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane. He will also perform in the outdoor winery setting of Hope Estate in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales.

Before its unexpected halt in proceedings due to the health of the singer, Symphonica, played to packed houses in Europe and fulfilled George's long-time ambition of performing alongside a full orchestra. Michael will perform a meticulously chosen selection of his own material spanning his entire career and will also throw in some cover versions of songs by his favourite artists. Set lists from European shows indicate that you may look foward to hearing, Let Her Down Easy (Terence Trent D'arby Cover), Going to A Town (Rufus Wainwright Cover) and Russian Roulette (Rihanna Cover).

The music has been re-worked and re-arranged for the large scale orchestra, which will accompany George and his band throughout the tour.

adam yauch of beastie boys died

Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch dies

The Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch, aka MCA died today (4 May), his bandmates have announced. He was 47.

A statement and full obituary confirming his passing was posted on Beastieboys.com, after reports of his death appeared online online.

"It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam "MCA" Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near three-year battle with cancer," they explained.

The rapper had been receiving treatment for a cancer that was effecting his salivary gland, after been diagnosed with the condition in 2009.

The release of the trio's last album, 2011's Hot Sauce Committee, Pt 2, had been delayed while Yauch was treated and the group did not tour the record.

Yauch was also not present when his band were inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame last month, and instead sent a letter explaining: "I'd like to dedicate this to my brothers Adam and Mike. They walked the globe with me. It's also for anyone who has ever been touched by our band. This induction is as much ours as it is yours."

Founding the Beastie Boys with Mike Diamond and Adam Horowitz in 1979, Yaunch was also heavily involved with the free Tibet campaign, organising a series of benefit gigs for the cause in the 1990s.

In addition to his musical contributions to the band, Yauch also directed videos under the name Nathanial Hörnblowér, taking charges of clips for So Whatcha Want, Intergalactic, Body Movin and Ch-Check It Out, while under his own name, he directed the extended Fight For Your Right Revisited film in which actors Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Jack Black, Will Ferrell and John C Reilly played the Beastie Boys at different ages.

The rapper is survived by his wife Dechen Wangdu and daughter Tenzin Losel.
