Without a doubt, the story of Susan Boyle is truly one of the most sensation stories of the year 2009. Although she missed the first place in British's Got Talent competition, she was abled to land a record deal with Sony Music - proved once again that vocal artists stil strong in demand.
In order to accomodate to her talent, Boyle's debut album is fulled with songs that could show off her vocal skill. There are several popular vocal-style songs (and most of them have been popularized by femal artists too), such as Julie London's "Cry Me a River", Madonna's "You'll See", Patty Griffin's "Up to the Mountain", and Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World". The album's overall performance is really good and matches the standard of professional vocal artists. Traditional songs like "Amazing Grace" and "Silent Night" also sounds as good as other popular versions. One of the highlight is the cover of Rolling Stones' "Wild Horse" - a strange choice of song that works out much better than expected. Other highlights includes, of course, her inspiring debut "I Dream a Dream", and a well-executed version of "Daydream Believer".
For fans who have been followed Boyle's story, this surely an enjoyable album that displays the talent of this newly-emerged singer. For curious listeners, this is a collection of famous vocal songs from different era that still good to today's generations.
NOTE: I Dreamed a Dream was recently confirmed as UK's fastest selling debut albums of all time, and the highest selling debut for solo female artist in US.
